Feature Friday

In the spirit of recycling the Purchasing Department is requesting that you return all unused Interdepartmental Delivery envelopes to their office for recirculation. So what do you mean by unused? Well every department needs folders on hand to send mail, but if you have an abundance of envelopes (i.e., a box of envelopes in your copy room that no one uses) they can be shared with other departments who are in need. How do I get them to purchasing? Please place a post-it on the envelopes that says “RECYCLE” and leave them for Mel Burton to collect when he services your area. If you have questions please contact Shannan George, or x4339.

And the winner is…..

Here are the answers from Friday’s  giveaway.

1. Its lunchtime and you’re late for a meeting so you’re reduced to eating fast food. Do you:

a.  Order at the drive-through

b.  Park and head inside to place your order

Idling for 10 seconds or longer burns more gas than restarting the engine!

2.  So to make up for your fast food lunch, its time for a healthy dinner, salmon. At the fish counter , you choose:

a. Atlantic

b.  Wild caught,Oregon or California

c.  Neither you skip the fish counter and buy canned

Canned salmon comes mainly from wild Alaskan waters ;many salmon from other US states are considered endangered or threatened. And “Atlantic” usually means “farmed”, a process that has been associated with chemical usage and unsustainable fishing practices.

These questions stumped everyone (including me) except Lucia Paolucci! I wonder how she knew canned salmon was better for the environment? I’ve always though that wild caught fish from the West Coast was more sustainable.

 Thanks to all who participated!

Congratulations LIFE Graduates!

You are educated.  Your certification is in your degree.  You may think of it as the ticket to the good life.  Let me ask you to think of an alternative.  Think of it as your ticket to change the world.

Feature Friday

Today’s feature is a Recyclemania giveaway. Remember LIFE University is participating in this eight week long recycling competition. To help reduce waste we’re giving away a pack of compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. Because a CFL lasts 6 to 10 times longer than a traditional incandescent bulb you’ll be reducing waste, and saving time and effort in replacing burnt out bulbs. To enter the giveaway respond to this post by Monday, February 13, 2012  with the phrase “I live a Sustainable LIFE.”
